As you may have guessed by the name, First Landing State Park is the landing site of the first English colonists in 1607. The park has seen many historic events, and its waterways have been travelled by Native American canoes, schooners, cargo ships, pirates, merchants and the Union and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Some even say that Blackbeard himself hid within the Narrows at First Landing State Park! The park was built by an all African American Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933-1940 and is a National Natural Landmark listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
